If you want to see the Mendenhall Glacier up close the trek to the Mendenhall Visitor Center. It offers exhibits on glaciology, a stunning overlook of the glacier, and access to nearby trails like Nugget Falls, where you can walk to a roaring waterfall near the glacier’s edge. Can you take the city bus to the Mendenhall Glacier? You can take the city bus to the Mendenhall Glacier, but if you're pressed for time or have mobility issues, it might not be the best option. The nearest bus stop to the Mendenhall Glacier, serviced by Capital City Transit, is 1.5 miles from the visitor center. The bus ride from downtown Juneau can take up to 1.5 hours, and once you arrive, you'll need to walk about 30 minutes to reach the visitor center. This makes for a round-trip journey of approximately 4 hours there and back.
